Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

 

History

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is carved into the granite face of Mount Rushmore. The project started in 1927 and ended in 1941. The memorial covers 1,278.45 acres, and it features 60-foot sculptures of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

My Experience

We arrived at Mount Rushmore right before sunset after deciding to ditch our camping reservations at Badlands in order to get a head start on the next day. The memorial was spectacular and the flags lining the entrance are stunning.
